The performance We are Swedish Policemen, We Are Good was made to the exhibition Polis, polis, potatismos: Utställning om ett brott at Malmö Konsthall, summer 2010. A patrol wagon stops at a square, a policeman steps out and starts dancing to music from the car stereo. The work balances between, on the one hand, a demonstration of power - the policeman has power on his side when he reclaims a square and uses the means of expression of the revolting by dancing in public. On the other hand, fragility - the policeman is lonely and the volume is a little too low, it's too bright, a bit like being first on the dance floor and feeling embarrassed and a too sober.
The exhibition Polis, polis, potatismos was based on Maj Sjöwall's and Per Wahlöö's novel Murder at the Savoy (Polis, polis, potatismos). In the performance, we are interested in the tension between the fictional police officers Beck’s and Månsson's solidarity with the working class, and the contemporary image of the police as it is expressed in the media. This media image tells about confrontations between the police and immigrant boys / young men, and about the racist statements used by the police in both these confrontations ("apadjävel") and in the police training material ("Neger Niggersson"). There is also a tension between two eras: the Swedish welfare state under construction versus its dismantling.
Like the novel's Swedish title, our title is authentic. Two little boys run away from their home in a Stockholm suburb. When they arrived in central Stockholm, they were taken care of by two policemen, who told the boys: "We are Swedish policemen, we are good".
In the performance, the policeman dance to music by Eurythmics, Patti Smith, The Knife and Laleh. All the musicians, just like Sjövall & Wahlöö, use popular culture to express social criticism.

Vårt performance Vi är svenska poliser, vi är snälla gjordes ursprungligen till utställningen Polis, polis, potatismos: Utställning om ett brott på Malmö Konsthall, sommaren 2010. En polispikét kör upp på ett torg, en polis kliver ut och börjar dansa till musik från bilstereon. Verket balanserar mellan å ena sidan maktdemonstration – polisen har makten på sin sida när han reclaimar ett torg och använder sig av de revolterandes uttrycksmedel genom att dansa i offentligheten. Å andra sidan skörhet – polisen är ensam och volymen är lite för låg, det är för ljust, som att vara först på dansgolvet och känna sig generad och lite för nykter.
Utställningen Polis, polis, potatismos utgick från Maj Sjöwalls och Per Wahlöös roman med samma namn. I verket intresserar vi oss för spänningen mellan de fiktiva poliserna Becks och Månssons solidaritet med arbetarklassen, och samtidens bild av polisen som den kommer till uttryck i media. Denna massmediabild handlar om konfrontationer mellan polis och invandrarpojkar/unga män, och om rasistiska tillmälen som använts av polisen såväl vid dessa konfrontationer ("apadjävel") som i polisens utbildningsmaterial ("Neger Niggersson"). Det är även en spänning mellan två tidsepoker: den svenska välfärdsstaten under uppbyggnad kontra dess nedmontering.
Liksom romanens titel är vår titel autentisk. Två småpojkar smet från sitt hem i en Stockholmsförort. När de kom till centrala Stockholm togs de om hand av polisen, som sa till pojkarna: "Vi är svenska poliser, vi är snälla".
Polisen dansar till musik av Eurythmics, Patti Smith, The Knife och Laleh. Samtliga musiker använder sig liksom Sjövall & Wahlöö av populärkultur för att framföra samhällskritik.
